A refined dining chair that takes inspiration from a historical Finnish manor.
Designed in a collaboration between Made by Choice and Bernadotte & Kylberg, a studio co-founded by Prince Carl Philip Bernadotte of Sweden and Oscar Kylberg, the Wirula Chair has an elegant design that celebrates a historical manor. The Swedish design duo created the dining chair for a restaurant located inside Wiurila, in Halikko, southern Finland. The historical Finnish estate dates back to the 15th century. In the 19th century, the property grew with several new buildings. Now, it houses a hotel, a restaurant, a golf course, and equestrian facilities. Tasked with creating a dining chair for Wiurila’s restaurant, Bernadotte & Kylberg used the property’s architecture as a source of inspiration.
Taking design cues from the historical manor also connects the design to the site in a more meaningful way. The Wiurila Chair has an elegant silhouette with details that pay homage to the manor’s architectural style. While the wing-shaped back references the roof of the outbuildings, the legs reimagine the manor’s pillars. The design is creative and special as well as closely linked to the premises. However, the elegant lines, minimalist design and imaginative backrest make the chair perfect for any living space, including contemporary interiors.
Made by Choice produces the chair in solid ash wood. Apart from the option with a light natural color, the Wiurila Chair also comes in Red and Yellow versions. Customers can pre-order the chair now on the company’s website. Made by Choice will also launch a limited-edition series of 50 chairs with unique numbers. Photography© Made by Choice.
