Many bikes perform well through the ups and downs of city streets. Many have eco-friendly features and electric motors. Plenty have sleek designs and a lightweight construction. But finding all of these features in one bike is harder than one would expect. The Volta e-bike designed by Pure Cycles seems to effortlessly combine all of these things in one gorgeous design.
Founded in 2010, the Los Angeles-based company has an important mission: to encourage more people to take on cycling. Now, the company has created the ideal urban bike. Volta is electric yet lightweight, and uncluttered, its simple and elegant frame boasting a modern, minimalist compact design. Put more simply, it doesn’t look like typical bulky e-bikes, but it also provides impressive power, despite its clean appearance. The rear-hub motor combines with a cleverly hidden battery to provide a range of 40 miles on one charge. This translates to a smooth return ride between Bronx and Brooklyn or to a relaxed trip between Palo Alto and San Francisco.
But Volta is not just beautiful and powerful. It’s also pretty smart. It comes with integrated headlights and taillights that activate in low-light conditions, an automatic brake light, GPS and activity tracking through the dedicated phone app, as well as with an electric motor with four power modes. Designed for urban commuters, the bicycle weighs just 35 lbs and has a convenient front basket which makes hauling bags and groceries easy and stress-free. Recently launched on Kickstarter, Volta is available in belt-drive or 8-speed chain versions, and there are also several commuter packs to choose from. Images courtesy of Pure Cycles.
