The Ulysse Nardin Freak X Razzle Dazzle Watch

A mesmerizing watch inspired by naval camouflage patterns from WWI.

Launched in a limited-edition series, the new Ulysse Nardin Freak X Razzle Dazzle watch takes the Swiss brand’s popular Freak X model to new heights of creative design. The exclusive timepiece draws inspiration from the camouflage patterns used in naval warfare during WWI, created to confuse the enemy rather than hide the ships. The eye-catching design also references geometric elements used widely in cubism and contemporary art. Blending artistic flair with high-end watchmaking, the Freak X Razzle Dazzle watch features Ulysse Nardin’s innovative, in-house made flying carousel movement. The movement rotates around its axis and doesn’t have a traditional dial or hands.

Instead, the watch features a decorative movement plate with integrated elements that indicate the minute and the hour. While a central bridge acts as a minute hand, one of the wheels marks the hour. Both the index and bridges boast a Super-LumiNova finish. To enhance the captivating design further, the brand used different dial-making techniques: laser, lacquer, and an electroplating/galvanic treatment.

The watch comes with a 43mm titanium case completed with a black DLC coating and a sandblasted satin texture. At the back, the sapphire crystal offers a view of the UN-230 self-winding movement that has a power reserve of 72 hours. Finally, the watch comes with either a black rubber leather or a white calfskin leather openwork strap; both options feature “point de bride” stitches. Limited to only 30 pieces, the Ulysse Nardin Freak X Razzle Dazzle is a modern collector’s watch. It’s available now, at a price of $27,300. Photographs© Ulysse Nardin.
