Around the World, Italians do it better

Torre di Moravola Hotel in Umbria, Italy

View all 23 Photos

After trees and thorns weaved their way into the former floors and roofs of the Moravola towers for 50 years, architect Christopher Chong and his wife Seonaid Mackenzie saved it from further vegetative takeover and turned it into a supreme retreat of contemporary and traditional treasures. This stonewalled structure overlooks the lush Carpini valley on its high mountainside perch in Umbria, Italy. The untouched rolling terrains of oak forests, cattle pastures and distant snow covered peaks surrounding the hotel are complemented with the luxurious gardens, outbuildings, terraces and the 25 meter pool to create a package of pure sensational treats. The hotel is made up of seven suites where five are designed as “tower suites.” Showers, toilets, sunken stone baths and direct access to the exterior terraces make up the ground level while private rooms and exposed vistas to the surrounding atmosphere make up the upper levels.
