An artistic design that celebrates the Year of the Tiger.

Taiwan-based 22 Design Studio produces minimalist watches and accessories from concrete. To celebrate the Year of the Tiger, the 22 team partnered with local design studio ZISHI. And the result? An intricate, beautifully detailed timepiece designed with a complex and artistic dial: the Tiger Edition of the 4D concrete automatic watch. Blending 22 Studio’s concrete dial and ZISHI’s tiger motif, the limited-edition watch is a work of art. The design also modernizes two traditional oriental elements: the tiger and the pine. Here, the tiger seems to walk forward from behind the signature spiral concrete staircase of 22 Studio’s watches.

To create the hand-cured concrete dial, the team had to first make a special mold with intricate details. The watch also features a completely new “screw-in” design for the bezel and case with four hidden screws. By eliminating the old opening at the 12 o’clock mark, 22 Studio optimized the case to improve the water resistance and to also simplify the disassembly method for easy repairs. All 22 Studio automatic watches will have this new case in the future. Creative details of the Tiger Edition watch include the Chinese character for “tiger” as the 22nd of every month, in a nod to both the year 2022 and to the studio’s name.

Other features include a horn-shaped crown guard, Super-LumiNova® coatings on the CNC machined, three-dimensional metal hour markers, a Swiss Sellita SW200-1 automatic winding movement, and sapphire crystal glass on both the front and back. 22 Design Studio will produce only 100 pieces in this limited-edition series. The 4D Concrete Watch Automatic Tiger Edition comes with a 45mm case and in two versions: Shadow and New Classic. On the caseback, both timepieces boast a tiger-head logo and a laser-engraved serial number. Photography© 22 Design Studio.
