“The Voracity” is a photographic and conceptual journey that requires commitment to give oneself to the motivations of hunger, consumption, and beauty. Photographer Anna Williams broke away from more typical projects to devote herself to the publication, crafting visual poetry that can easily transition from a sweet sonnet to a theatrical epic. Williams creates collages of text, gastronomic portraits, still lives, and heroic studies to weave a story of enchantment, temptation, and desire. Her fairy tales usually have a sinister twist, though something darker and richer is sure to whet the appetite for art. One particular issue titled “The Snow Woman” begins with a banquet of icy desserts and delights, followed by the portrayal of the Snow Woman, and later a few spreads depicting various textures such as fur, crystals, and crackled ice. The narratives that Williams weaves are complex and the associations tying one subject to another under tension; yet, this strain heightens the senses so that the vegetables on the cutting board are ever the riper and that fragrance of dried herbs on the kitchen shelf are even more pungent.
