Inspired by vernacular architecture, Cottage in the Vineyard connects rustic and contemporary with its modern design. Built by Ramón Esteve Studio, the rural retreat blends into the landscape thanks to an ingenious spatial concept. “This countryside retreat generated from the idea of a standard traditional rural house with its pitched roof, applying a new concept of space afterwards.” The vineyard cottage sits at the border between a pine forest and a vineyard in Fontanars dels Alforins, Spain. Perfectly integrated into the landscape, it maximizes the link to nature. A long concrete volume forms the spine on the house, with pine wood containers crossing this central space.
Various types of trees grow all around the structure. Olive trees line the path which leads to the entrance, while poplars, pines, and cypresses surround the building. Guests enter through one of the wooden volumes, finding a wide, open-plan space full of natural light as well as pine wood and white concrete surfaces. At the rear of the retreat, a wide porch provides a stunning lounge area open to the landscape, while also creating a dialogue between the forest and the vineyard. Eco-friendly features that include solar panels, natural insulation, energy-efficient lighting, as well as rainwater collecting systems complete the design. Photographs© Mariela Apollonio.
