A stylish combination of classic aesthetics and contemporary details, the new Competizione Stradale watch makes a lasting impression at a glance. It is designed and made by Girard-Perregaux, a Swiss haute horologie watchmaker producing ticking works of art since 1791. The company prides itself in always “defying the limits of watchmaking while at the same time honoring the precepts of the watchmaking tradition and bringing a high degree of sophistication to the finishing of its timepieces.” This sport watch is a fresh addition to the brand’s new “Sport Competizione” collection and the design is inspired by the iconic Club Italia watch, displaying various references to the classic model. There’s the chic combination of polished and satin finishes, the elongated lugs that remind of the aerodynamic shape of a racing car, and an open case at the back which allows the owner to admire the intricacies of the mechanism and its moving pieces.
Modern accents include blued steel screws, the GP03300-00122 automatic movement offering a power reserve of minimum 46 hours, and a wider set of functions featuring hour, minute, small seconds, and date displays joining the chronograph. In true Girard-Perregaux fashion, even the interior parts and surfaces are decorated with unique details, and here ‘Côtes de Genève’ appears on the oscillating weight, mainplate, and bridges. Competizione Stradale comes in a silver gray and black dial version; the red hand measuring the seconds stands out against both backdrops beautifully. The silver model can be ordered with a brown alligator strap, while the black dial version comes with a steel bracelet. Both designs are elegant and timeless, bringing a unique sense of style to modern sports watch design while preserving the classic allure of the 1950s intact.
