An inspiring watch that pays homage to the Apollo 11 mission.
On the night of November 14, 2016, the largest supermoon of the last 70 years kept Polish designer Rafal Czaniecki awake and unable to sleep. While admiring the brightness of the moon, he realized he wanted to create a design that would adequately celebrate one of the most inspiring achievements of humanity: the Apollo 11 mission. Three years later, the designer has unveiled his concept, the creative and distinctive SVPER11 watch.
Every detail of the timepiece pays homage to the NASA moon landing in one way or another. For example, the dial references the moon landing site, the Sea of Tranquility. It features a 3D topographic map of the area, with layers that measure only 0.1mm in thickness. This 3D surface also curves upwards as it reaches the edge of the dial. One-of-a-kind, the 4-arm second hand with the sweeping motion of the Japanese VH31 SEIKO movement mirrors the look of a radar that constantly indicates the location of the landing area. The crown of the SVPER11 watch draws inspiration from the mission’s spacesuits. More specifically, it features shapes and colors reminiscent of the spacesuits’ oxygen valves.
The stainless steel case boasts a mineral glass dome with a protective sapphire layer and anti-reflective coating. The technical ceramic caseback has a spaceship-inspired white finish and also features an Apollo 11 mention. Finally, laser-etched coordinates and the Latin name for the landing site adorn the interior of the custom strap buckle. Launched on Kickstarter on September 9, 2019, the SVPER11 watch comes in 4 colors inspired by the moon landing. Early Bird backers will be able to get the timepiece at a discount of up to 45% from the future retail price of $349. Photographs© Rafal Czaniecki.
