Located in the former Jewish quarter of Mikulov (Nikolsburg) in Czech Republic, this beautiful building dates back to the 16th century. Damaged over the years, Štajnhaus was still carrying the marks of numerous renovations, but its medieval character remained intact. The owner hired Ora Architects to complete a complex renovation project. The goal? To transform this historic gem into a welcoming guest house with plenty of antique charm as well as modern comfort.

Stepping inside the house, guests discover numerous original features that give the interior a distinctive character. Natural stone steps, arches, wooden beams and intricate tiles reference different eras. At the top floor, windows frame the blue sky. Underneath the house, the old wine cellars resume their original purpose. Each room is unique. Consequently, the designers found ingenious solutions to give the spaces their own personality. The rooms come with made to order, handmade furniture. The studio added a range of exquisite décor pieces that complement the old features while bringing a sophisticated vibe to the rooms. The resulting design manages to keep the historic character of the structure at the center, while infusing the living spaces with an unmistakable creative atmosphere. Put more simply, Štajnhaus is an architectural and interior design masterpiece. Photography by BoysPlayNice.
