Sputnik 5: A Combined Table and Planter

View all 11 Photos

Designed by Maxim Scherbakov of the St. Petersburg-based studio Plan-S23, the Sputnik 5 is a coffee table and a planter, all in one. The design references the famous Soviet satellite that took animals into space and back. Composed of a pyramid within a cube, the table lifts the plant into the air and suspends it above the ground. The Sputnik 5 is made of marble, metal, and wood, materials which emphasize traditionally natural imagery, keeping the innovative furniture design on earth.
