Trained engineer and motorbike enthusiast Larry Romestant bought his first K-series BMW for just $500. His postal carrier noticed his motorcycle one day and offered him her purple 1990 K75 standard. Seeing a BMW at a low price was a big temptation, and Romestant thought why not. He took it back to his workshop and built his first custom K, or SpecialK, as he would call it now. Romestant soon found himself addicted to the smooth-running K bikes and also that there is a niche market of people who want the performance machine with a lighter, more refined look. He started taking commissions for SpecialK’s, playing on the name of the motorcycles and of course the notorious drug. Over the course of his journey, Romestant has customized commuter, cruiser, sport tourer, supersport bikes, all of which are still serviceable in a standard BMW shop. Romestant is currently accepting new clients; check out the SpecialK to contact him directly.
