The Soft Lounge Chair

An elegant chair designed with molded veneer elements reminiscent of soft cloth.

When pieces of furniture serve more than just a functional purpose, they often have designs that are creative, bold, or minimal. The Soft Lounge is all three. Created by Copenhagen-based design studio Thomas Bentzen Industrial Design for Danish furniture brand TAKT, this award-winning chair is elegant and a great example of sustainable design. It features molded veneer elements that seem to “fold” over the solid wood frame like a piece of soft cloth. Both the seat and the backrest feature curved edges that enhance seating comfort and the ergonomics of the chair. At the same time, these molded sections strengthen the entire construction. Crafted from solid ash wood, the Soft Lounge Chair has a light color and a fine texture with delicate grain patterns. The specially chosen wood reinforces the refined and warm character of the design.

TAKT uses a natural, white-pigmented oil and a water-based lacquer to finish each product. While the treatment allows the wood to change and gain a patina over time, it also provides an easy solution to repair and re-finish the chair if and when needed. The chair comes in either Natural Matt Lacquer or Black Matt Lacquer. Similarly to other products from the company, this one is eco-friendly. Made from FSC-certified wood through a transparent process, the Soft Lounge Chair has received the EU Ecolabel. Plus, TAKT ships the chair as a flat pack to minimize CO2 emissions. This also allows the user to easily disassemble the product when needed to replace parts. The Soft Lounge Chair has received many awards, including the Danish Design Award.
