Introducing Society

Natural home and grooming products, without the markups.

Based in Los Angeles, Society aims to change the way we buy – and enjoy – everyday products. The new members-only marketplace offers a selection of natural, high-quality home and personal care products, without the traditional markups. The line has reasonable prices because the brand – and in this case, also manufacturer – reaches out to customers directly. The simple but clever concept required some work to bring to fruition. Several years of research later, Society has put together a collection that doesn’t contain chemicals or harmful ingredients.

“After years of our team working in the natural goods and tech spaces, we noticed that natural, good-for-you alternatives only exist in certain industries, and when they are present, they come with a hefty price markup,” says co-founder Jessica Huang. “The same can be said about home and personal care—so we thought there should be another big player in this space. One that cares about people, not just profits. That’s Society,” she adds.

The first line of Society products includes a bar soap, dish soap, ayate cloth, multi-surface spray, insect killer, and carpet cleaner. The company aims to expand the range not only with other cleaning and natural grooming products, but also with essentials such as coffee and bedroom linens. While the Society line is both natural and affordable, the brand also wants to minimize its environmental impact. The company aims to use biodegradable packaging and to always sell only US-made products.

Apart from their natural ingredients and affordable price, Society products also stand out with their modern design. The company has collaborated with FAY Design to create the fun and vibrant packaging. The studio has drawn inspiration from artists Ellsworth Kelly, Anni and Josef Albers, and Agnes Martin for the bold designs. The goal? To make home cleaning and personal care products one would proudly leave on display in a kitchen or bathroom.

Members can opt for a monthly or a yearly membership to receive cheap, high-quality, natural products on their doorstep. The brand’s Indiegogo campaign lasts until the 1st of November, 2018. Backers have the exclusive, one-time opportunity to choose a lifetime membership for the same price as the yearly fee. Photographs© Society.
