Slab City Through the Lens of Eric Thayer

View all 7 Photos

Graffiti splattered walls, abandoned settlements and a sea of desert sand becomes place of shelter for the squatters of Slab City. The homeless in Southern California let the deserted ruins of what was once a Marine base become their permanent dwelling. They live through scorching temperatures, government assisted checks, electricity generators and a meager stock of supplies to support their modest lifestyle. Photographer Eric Thayer captures the reality of Slab City highlighting their challenging step in the journey of life.
