Shoes Etc. By Henry Gunderson

View all 11 Photos

In his ‘Shoes Etc.’ exhibition, Brooklyn-based artist Henry Gunderson takes a look at the world through surreal imagery that creates ubiquitous sneaker shapes. Vibrant colors combine in striking paintings showing various characters in complex scenes filled with meaning.

Powerful symbolism runs throughout the artworks, with both obvious and not-so-obvious references combining in whimsical creations. An apocalyptic scene. Cave paintings, tribal patterns as well as primordial fire paired with office accessories. A sobriety symbol alongside a pool of water. The only sculpture of the exhibition recreates the famous Lunch Atop Of Skyscraper photograph, with comical results. The artist’s second solo exhibition at the 247365 art gallery in New York, Shoes Etc. also included a public shoe donation for the Shoes For All non-profit charity.
