American pride still flickers in the small town of Greensboro, Alabama. Years of decline in the nation’s economy caused factory towns like these to shut down, showing signs of depression, injured at their core. Thank goodness for the saving spirits of these locals that never gave up. The teams at makeLab and HERObike spend their days building hand crafted semester bicycles out of local sustainable materials. The bamboo used in the frame is so close to home, in fact, that just three blocks down the road, they harvest a rod from the forest and carry it over their heads right through the center of town. Its design is simple and strong with aesthetic lines that accommodate any style of bike. Every ride is built right in the heart of town by people that live here. Supplying jobs, building sustainable products, encouraging the rest of the nation to follow suit. Semester Bicycles can be pre-ordered on the project’s Kickstarter page.
