Roots of Vegetal by Florian Pucher

View all 7 Photos

What appears to be a lovely mosaic rug has design justifications that extend beyond its plush surface. Roots of Vegetal, a circular rug that is textured with colorful patches, is a sequel to Austrian designer Florian Pucher’s Vegetal Chair. The chair’s aerial orthographic projection maps directly onto the white tendrils that emanate from the center of the rug. Without the chair, the rug bears resemblance to an urban grid, which can be traced back to Pucher’s background in architecture and apprenticeship under Zaha Hadid. Ultimately, the rug sparks discourse among the elements within a room, and of course with a hint of warmth and whimsy.
