Design, Italians do it better

Rome’s First Cat Cafe

View all 10 Photos

The cat cafe trend comes to Rome in the adorable form of the Romeow Cat Bistrot. Designed by Tommaso Guerra, the interior plays with a palette of blue, white, and the brown of naturally finished wood. The walls and ceiling, complete with exposed pipes, are painted in shades of teal and slate. Meanwhile, details such as the wainscotting and matching piano stand out with a stark white finish. Against this bright backdrop, there is a mix of contemporary and vintage furnishings for people and cats alike. Like any cafe of a decent size, the Romeow Cat Bistrot offers customers a few different nooks where they can sit, including a lofted lounge. This feline-friendly design goes beyond the pale, however, by placing built-in shelving and an indoor tree by the seating areas so that cats can climb around while their human admirers can ooh and ahh.
