Introducing Richard Brendon

Contemporary bone china and glassware that celebrate artisan skill.

While some designers find inspiration in nature or in the exploration of materials and forms, others are deeply connected to the place of their birth. Yet few designers incorporate local heritage and context into their work as elegantly as London-based Richard Brendon does. Born in Notting Hill, Richard Brendon went on to study design at university while working in the West London area. With the iconic Portobello Market nearby, he soon became immersed in the world of antique bone china. Noticing that the stalls featured many saucers without teacups due to the cups breaking, he developed a bold concept. These creative prototypes became his graduate design exhibition.

The collection brought together vintage saucers and mirrored cups. The polished surface of the teacups reflected the intricate patterns of the antique decorations, creating a gorgeous effect. At the same time, the series placed history-rich objects in a modern context, giving them a new lease at life. The collection became a critical success and paved the way towards a new era of contemporary bone china and glassware. In 2013, the Richard Brendon brand was born. Collaborations with leading British companies soon followed.

Blending traditional craftsmanship, vintage influences, and heritage expertise, the designer has created tableware collections with a contemporary aesthetic

Blending traditional craftsmanship, vintage influences, and heritage expertise, the designer has created tableware collections with a contemporary aesthetic. Even when a Richard Brendon wine glass design reference the art deco era or the cocktail culture of 1920s America, it look fresh and modern. State-of-the-art decorating techniques and flawless hand-cut detailing give the bone china and tableware items a premium finish that also celebrates artisan skill.

Created in a collaboration with world-famous wine expert Jancis Robinson, the Jancis Robinson x Richard Brendon line maximizes the enjoyment of wine via specially designed silhouettes and curves. Crafted from mouth-blown glass, this Richard Brendon wine glass and barware collection provides the most elegant solution to enhance the flavor and taste of even the finest wine. This line includes everything from mature and young wine decanters to wine glasses and a water carafe.

The stylish Fluted line draws inspiration from the American cocktail culture of the 1920s

The stylish Fluted line draws inspiration from the American cocktail culture of the 1920s. Designed for the American Bar at the 5 star Gleneagles hotel and golf resort, the collection blends refined vintage cues with contemporary design. Each piece from this glassware range is crafted by master craftspeople in Bohemia and finished with signature fluted cuts. Design lovers have a great range of items to choose from if they want to create their own barware set. Apart from a beautiful Richard Brendon wine glass design, the collection also includes decanters, a water jug, and an ice bucket as well as whiskey, highball, and champagne glasses, to name a few.

Infusing the art deco aesthetic with a celestial character, the Hex line features a refined pattern in black and gold colors. This chic bone china range can make every tea break special. While offering a modern twist on the classic diamond pattern, the Diamond line is a gem of contemporary design. This barware collection features decanters, glasses, and other products with a clean-cut diamond pattern which allows the light to refract into a spectacle of colors and sparkles. Anchored in age-old tradition, Details from Willow re-imagines the antique Blue Willow pattern in a contemporary bone china collection. The line honors a beloved English design with products that blend into both traditional or modern interiors.

Painted by hand, the Arc collection celebrates the tradition of hand decorated British bone china with an art deco-inspired but contemporary aesthetic. Like the other Richard Brendon wine glass design and bone china products, this line is crafted by experienced artisans. Here, master decorators from Stoke-on-Trent showcase their impressive skill with perfect hand-finished patterns completed in gold and matte black.

Finally, the Superstripe line redefines bone china for a new generation of design lovers. Created in a partnership with PATTERNITY, the collection boasts mesmerizing cobalt blue stripe patterns. The designs reference the Age of Enlightenment as well as the layers of radical ideas of the 17th-18th century Britain. Made by the finest craftspeople in Stoke-on-Trent, every item from this bone china collection is a work of art. And the highlight? The stunning gold and platinum cup and saucer sets that recreate Richard Brendon’s original ‘mirror’ concept in a sophisticated design. Ideal for design lovers, the Richard Brendon collections transform bone china and glassware items into masterpieces of contemporary design. Discover all of these ranges and pick your favorite here.
