The Relay Floor Lamps

View all 8 Photos

A minimalist design that pairs marble with light.

Floor lamps sometimes double as decorative objects in a room. In the case of the Relay series, they also look like works of art. Created by Cypriot-born, London-based designer Michael Anastassiades, the lamp is minimalist and refined as well as innovative. The designer explores experimental techniques in his work and often draws inspiration from nature, art, and Modernism to create timeless lighting, furniture, home accessories, and other products. With Relay, he also explores the inherent qualities of a precious natural material: marble.

Elegant and simple, the floor lamps come with rectangular marble bases. The marble blocks have hidden magnets that hold the tubular LED lights. The user can thus easily change the LED element from two available sizes. Ingeniously concealed, the magnets provide excellent support while keeping the clean aesthetic intact. In addition, this convenient system encourages the user to interact with the object. Launched in 2022, the Relay lighting series comprises four versions of the same design. While the opaline borosilicate glass tubes come in two heights, the bases come in either White Statuary marble or in Black Marquina marble. All four versions come with an integrated LED of 20W and with a dimmer switch. The designer also offers Relay with Casambi wireless technology upon request. Photography © Michael Anastassiades.
