A gem for Porsche, photography and car racing fans.
Recently published by Delius Klasing, one of Europe’s leading special interest publishers, this collectible box set will surely make automotive and photography lovers happy. Renowned photographer Martin Schoeller captured the portraits of six racing drivers for the Porsche Christophorus 378. In true Schoeller fashion, the portraits are unconventional. Dramatically close and highly detailed as well as brightly lit. Apart from his signature style, the photographer also added another dimension to this series. All of images show the LMP1 drivers mere moments after they had finished their long-distance race, driving a Porsche 919 hybrid- racing car.
Shoeller took the photographs on location in a mobile studio at the FIA World Endurance Championship, in July 2016. “I wanted to feel, understand and experience what goes on there… How exhausted the drivers feel after racing, how disappointed they are when they lose and how euphoric they are when they win,” he explains. Careful to shoot the images right after the drivers had stepped out of the cockpit of their car, the photographer captured a wide range of emotions on their faces, ranging from exhaustion and determination to subtle joy. The drivers are Mark Webber, Neel Jani, Brendon Hartley, Marc Lieb, Timo Bernhard, and Romain Dumas.
For the first time in its 65-year history, the Porsche Christophorus magazine launched the 378 issue with six different covers. The Porsche Christophorus boxed set brings all of the covers together. Which makes this collection a must-have for car racing aficionados and Porsche fans as well as photography lovers. Buy here. Photographs© Martin Schoeller.
