Paper City by Maciek Janicki

View all 7 Photos

If artist Maciek Janicki were to offer a tour of his city, you don’t refuse. Paper City is a journey through paper space, a metropolis of emerging geometries that are erected on cue. The video animation features an urban landscape with paper skyscrapers, carefully pleated bridges, and a paper-paved road that winds along the sites. Each figure is carefully modeled with highlights and shadows to boot; from the crumpled treetops to the careful creases along building edges, the outstanding amount of effort is apparent. And just as the city literally unfolded before our eyes, the city is at last razed to a single paper plane.
