It’s time to turn the page on monotonous design.
If you thought you’ve seen everything in contemporary chair design, think again. Meet one of the most creative chairs you’ll see this year. Designed by Noriko Hashida and made by Vanguard Industries, the Pages Chair draws inspiration from books for its playful design. Both ingenious and fun, the chair features multiple “pages” of soft felt in vibrant colors for the seat and backrest. The user can simply flip the sheets of fabric to transform the chair and give it a new bright color. This means that the Pages Chair can always look different, depending on the decor, the user’s mood, or the time of day.
More than just an imaginative design, the chair also provides a clever solution to adjust the backrest height by flipping more or fewer pages. At the same time, the seat’s thickness also changes to make the seat extra-plush when needed. The user can find the perfect level of comfort by flipping the textile pages while also changing the chair’s appearance.
Crafted by Japanese artisans, Pages comes with a simple maple wood frame and legs. Up to 12 colorful felt fabrics offer plenty of options to change the product’s look. Current options range from cool blue to red palettes, with bolder patterns and animal prints also planned for the near future. Introduced in 2012 at Salone del Mobile, the chair went on a worldwide tour to different design and furniture exhibitions. Vanguard Industries successfully launched the Pages chair on Kickstarter in March 2019, with shipping to backers starting from August, 2019. Via Yanko Design. Photographs© Vanguard Industries.
