What is a chaise lounge?

A chaise lounge, whether designed for indoor or outdoor use, offers a more comfortable way to relax. Unlike daybeds that have only a horizontal mattress, outdoor chaise lounge chairs and sunbeds have adjustable backrests with different positions. Some designs are more simple and feature circular or rectangular headrests while others feature integrated side tables or magazine racks.

Why do they call it a chaise lounge?

The term “chaise longue” is French and translates to “long chair.” Originally created and popularized in the 16th century, chaises longues allowed wealthy people to take a break and relax without having to retire to their bedrooms. In the US, chaise lounge which is a riff on lounge chairs has become the preferred spelling. However, the term chaise longue is also used.

Are chaise lounges comfortable and good for your back?

Chaise lounges and outdoor chaise longue chairs are specially designed to offer ultimate comfort. So it’s no wonder that this furniture design is widely used in the offices of doctors and therapists. Outdoor lounge chairs are generally wider, have adjustable backrests, and come with plush cushions and mats. Designs vary, with firm sunbeds made of wood or metal and chaise lounge chairs with thick, cushioned mattresses available in various styles.
