Ondu, Handmade Wooden Pinhole Cameras

View all 16 Photos

Before the cell phone camera, the digital camera, the throw away camera it took effort with the old manuals to capture a perfect picture. Anymore today, pictures are easy to take, quick to review. Really though the true treat of photography is the magic that happens in the dark room: the orangey light, vinegary smells, the clothesline of prints drip drying.
Kind of going back in time to more primitive camera concepts, the Ondu Pinhole Camera features no lens. By sliding a wooden tab the small hole exposes the film to the subject of interest, just as simple as that. The thrill in playing with happenstance images awaits you in the dark room. All parts are handmade in Velenje, Slovenia by woodworker Elvis Halilovi? out of local, naturally oiled maple and chestnut. The design contains a manual shutter displayed across the face and the two little winding knobs on top. All the pieces are held together by strong magnets keeping the aesthetics streamline. Available in 6 dimensions accommodating different sizes of film.
