A modern chair that fuses Nordic design and Japanese craftsmanship.
Perfect for reading or spending some quality time with a friend over a cup of coffee, well-made lounge chairs can become one of the most used – and loved – pieces of furniture in a living room. Designed by Norwegian designer Stine Aas for Northern, the Oaki lounge chair also has an expressive appearance. The chair blends Nordic design with traditional Japanese joinery techniques. Minimalist as well as stylish, Oaki features a lower height typical of modern Japanese interiors and a curved backrest that “hugs” the user. The concealed joinery gives the lounge chair a refined look. All four legs rise to the full height of the chair, supporting the curved backrest between them. Angled towards the back, the rear legs give a dynamic accent to the design.
Both the curved backrest and the rounded seat enhance comfort. Crafted to stand up to the test of time, the Oaki lounge chair features a solid oak body and comes with a laminated oak veneer seat and backrest. Finish options include light oiled that lets the grain and textures of the solid timber to shine; smoked oak that darkens the natural colors; and dark black sheen that enhances the minimalist aesthetic further. Customers can also select between brown or black leather padding for the back and the seat; both options feature Ultra leather upholstery from Sørensen. Apart from this lounge chair, the designer also created a dining chair with the same silhouette. Photographs© Northern.
