“Nowhere but Sajima” by Yasutaka Yoshimura is a vacational residence located about an hour away from Tokyo; this shortens the standard three hours away-weekend- house dramatically suggesting a new urban life style. Located adjacent to the ocean and Mountain Fuji, with Enoshima right across the shore, this calls for an assortment of windows, providing a serene view on one side while it suspends over the water taking all of the attention away from the row of condominiums and heavy traffic runs by its side. Nowhere but Sajima is built in several long and thin tubes bundled into one home unit, each tube is shared by two rooms. Sunlight passes through the circular hole on the third floor or seeps in through the furniture and the ceiling, no light or lamp is necessary during the day time, creating natural lighting textures and shadows that can’t be designed.
