Nomos Glashütte’s Autobahn Watch

A racing-style timepiece that speeds ahead of the rest.

After over fours years of work, German brand Nomos Glashütte unveiled its new masterpiece at Baselworld 2018. The Autobahn watch draws inspirations from racing and automotive design, but it clearly darts ahead of other similar timepieces thanks to its focus on a modern aesthetic instead of the often-favored vintage cues. Created by renowned designer Werner Aisslinger who collaborated with NOMOS Glashütte’s design department to bring the timepiece to life, the watch features a clean design as well as various creative details. The curved sapphire glass and dial instantly draw attention, while the three-lane date window offers a glimpse at the past, present, and future.

The watch blends “dashing design from Berlin, engineering and watchmaking skill from the quiet streets of Glashütte,” explains the company. The sporty but refined aesthetic displays a sense of motion through elegant curves. “I love speed,” says Werner Aisslinger. “The aim was to create an archetype. Something to withstand the test of time,” adds the designer.

The three versions of the new Autobahn timepiece all feature an ultra-thin 41mm case, the innovative NOMOS neomatik date caliber movement with a 42-hour power reserve, as well as orange accents and Superluminova coatings. The silver-plated dial version has classic design cues. The racing model boasts a new sports gray hue and a splash of blue color. Finally, the third version features a midnight blue dial that contrasts the orange accents. Launched on March 22, the new timepiece is currently available on the brand’s website and at selected retailers. Photographs© Nomos Glashütte.
