A bookstore inspired by traditional libraries.
Located in the area of Ny Østergade, Copenhagen, New Mags’ new flagship store welcomes book lovers in a refined space that takes inspiration from traditional libraries. Architecture firm Norm Architects designed the concept store with a minimalist and refined interior. The design perfectly showcases the coffee table book selection. As a result, the tomes themselves become artworks in an understated space that lets them shine. The studio also used sculptures and decorative objects to give a nod to old libraries. The bookstore features high ceilings and large windows that flood the space with light and overlook the bustling street.
Inspired by the new building, the architects used a simple material palette to provide the perfect backdrop to the New Mags coffee table books. Apart from oak and golden sandstone that both bring warmth to the space, the interior also features cast concrete flooring. Lounge chairs and stools offer a comfortable way to relax while flipping the pages of a new book. Two large pivoting timber doors separate the bookstore from the New Mags office. These doors provide a flexible solution to create a larger space for meetings or events when needed. Placed on wooden tables, sandstone plinths, or concrete modules, the books invite customers to take a break and enter the worlds of architecture, art, photography, fashion, and design in a dynamic but tranquil space.
