BMW’s electric i3 is a popular car. So popular, in fact, that it has become a worldwide leader in the premium compact sector since its launch on 2014. For 2018, the automotive giant plans to take it to another level. The new BMW i3s features a sportier design, with accentuated lines, wider chassis, and a dynamic silhouette. High-gloss black accents and black inlays also give the vehicle a distinct appearance. Beyond its good looks, the new i3s features a new suspension, 20-inch light alloy wheels with bicolor or Jet Black spokes, as well as plenty of power. This zero emissions car packs a punch thanks to the 184 hp electric engine that has 199 pound-feet of torque and reaches a top speed of 100 mph. Combined with the special Sport driving mode, the i3s can complete a 0-60 mph sprint in just 6.8 seconds.
Other features include full LED headlights as standard, a cabin that boasts over 80% surfaces made of recycled or renewable materials, as well as the state-of-the-art iDrive system. A range extender takes the 97-mile range to an impressive 180-mile one, while the optional TurboCord EV charger provides up to three times faster charging and works with both 120V and 240V outlets. The BMW i3s and BMW i3 will make their world debut this September, at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt. But there’s no pricing just yet – automotive enthusiasts will have to wait until 2018. Photographs© BMW.
