The Mirror Houses are a pair of holiday rental units created by Peter Pichler Architecture in Bolzano, Italy. Placed behind a historical home and apple orchard, the new constructions needed to be autonomous and to complement the existing structures. Each retreat has a kitchen and living room, a bedroom, a bathroom, and a basement for temporary storage. But, one would not be able to tell that from the outside, as the two boxy volumes are clad in mirrored siding. Reflecting the natural landscape, as well as the pool and the farm, the rentals’ exterior helps the contemporary additions blend with their surroundings.
The opposite side tells another story. Framed by a black aluminum roof and white porch, the facade is distinctly modern in style. The sliding glass doors and skylight bring sunlight into the white and brown interior and open up the space to views of the private garden and the South Tyrolean Dolomites.
