A beautifully streamlined watch design.

Born in Northeastern United States, Ross McBride moved to Tokyo in 1985, soon after graduating from the California Institute of the Arts. The designer has lived in Japan ever since. In 2006, he established his own watchmaking brand, Normal Timepieces. The name references the concept of finding common ground among different views and building a sense of community. Blending mid-century American design influences and Japanese minimalism, the brand’s watches are both stylish and versatile. The Men’s Hibi Ø38 watch collection perfectly represents the company’s approach to design. The line combines innovation and simplicity while celebrating craftsmanship and timeless elegance.

Completely streamlined, the watches feature a split-case build as well as a thickness of under 7mm. By embedding both the crown and the band into the body, Normal Timepieces has created watches with a beautifully refined silhouette. The split-case construction paired with the impressive thickness required a precise manufacturing process, leading the brand to partner with a specialized factory. Apart from the streamlined design, the case also allows the creation of two-tone models. Consequently, the Hibi Ø38 line features a range of color and texture combinations that enhance different aspects of the design.

The cases feature brushed silver, black, brown, or gunmetal finishes, with matching or contrasting dials and hands. Apart from a quality Japanese Miyota 9T33 movement and a SR616SW battery, the watches come with tempered mineral glass crystal and have a water-resistance of 5ATM. Premium calfskin leather straps and stainless steel mesh bands complete the elegant design. The brand offers a range of leather band colors to choose from, including classic black and brown.
