Forthcoming from the German art publisher Kehrer Verlag, Skater is a bound collection of photographs by the Scottish-Australian photographer and skater Nikki Toole. Toole traveled the world for three years, turning her lens to 300 skaters in Australia, the Czech Republic, England, Germany, Italy, and the USA. Her portraits capture the meditative mood of skating, a result of how skaters simultaneously “zone out” and concentrate to keep their balance and test their limits. Nominated for the National Photographic Portrait Prize and successfully funded on Kickstarter, Toole’s project is soon to be released by Kehrer Verlag on October 13th, 2015. The limited-edition book prints 68 black and white photographs, plus text by Toole and the National Portrait Gallery’s Christopher Chapman, on 144 pages of high-quality paper. Stay tuned to buy the book from Kehrer (EUR 39,90) or pre-order today from Amazon ($50).
