Li2bit, Concrete Fire Hydrant Salt + Pepper Shakers

View all 6 Photos

Aside from having fun running GBlog and GSelect, we love to do some design ourselves creating fun objects under the name of Scoope Design. Today, we are happy to show you guys the result of our hard work. A set of salt and pepper shakers made out of concrete called “Li2bitt”. Shaped as NYC’s fire hydrants the Li2bits are our attempt to give relevance and attention to ordinary objects that we normally take for granted, “every dog has its day”, as they say. They were inspired by the O’brien Model of fire hydrants that were introduced in the 1980s, celebrating and reevaluating the simple things around us by giving them a different purpose, changing the meaning and function that we’re used to associating with. The Li2bitt prototype was designed and printed in 3D form, based on the first prototype we were able to make several different sets of molds which will allow very small scale manufacturing process minimizing its carbon foot print. Everything will be hand made here in Brooklyn, NY using locally sourced materials. They will be available soon at GSelect
