Inspired by designer Florian Pucher’s experience of looking down through an airplane window, the Landcarpet series puts an aerial view of a continent or country under your feet. The rugs, loosely based on satellite images, reflect Pucher’s interpretation of farmed and natural landscapes. Although his renderings are not mapped to scale, Pucher’s rugs echo actual biomes and feature landmarks signature to each location. His limited edition series includes signed textiles of Europe, Africa, the Netherlands, and the United States of America, as well as commissioned representations of Italy and Hong Kong. The carpet of Hong Kong’s Kowloon West Side is to be featured in the permanent design collection at M+, a museum soon-to-be-built in China. All Landcarpets are hand-tuffed from 100% New Zealand wool, and the features are raised to reflect the varying heights of the mapped landscape. The wool is all-natural, sustainable, long-lasting, and secured with non-toxic glue. Landcarpets may be purchased from the Pucher’s website and customized for size and design on request.
