Celebrated photographer Tom Atwood continues his ambitious photo series that began with the “Kings in Their Castles” book. This second addition to the artist’s magnum opus maintains the same focus on the LGBTQ community. It features over 160 subjects from all over the US as well as 60 celebrities. Actors, writers, artists, and activists appear alongside doctors, musicians, and urban bohemians. The photographs offers a rare glimpse into the lives of inspiring, eccentric and intriguing cultural icons of our time, but also a portrait of those who help to turn the wheels of modern civilization.

“There is a common LGBTQ sensibility that sets us apart that I wanted to recognize and celebrate, says Atwood. “This sensibility shares an outlook with the sensibility of creative and cultural leaders — an awareness of difference, of other, of possibility — an avant-garde mindset.”
Captured at home, surrounded by personal items, art, and memorabilia. Photographed in front of sweeping city views. The subjects and their living spaces unify in images that combine portraiture as well as architectural photography. Kings & Queens In Their Castles is published by Damiani. Founded in the ’50s, the respected Italian publishing house is also recent winner of the prestigious Best Photography Publisher of 2016 award at the Lucie Awards in New York. Behind the gold stamped cover, there are 144 pages and 135 color images, all protected by golden endpapers. And there’s good news for photography fans. Each photograph is also available as a separate 18’’ print in editions of 10, on Tom Atwood’s website. Photo credits: Tom Atwood and Damiani.
