When good design, modern technology, and philanthropy come together, good things happen. The best example? The recently launched Story Bikes, a range of electric bicycles that combine good looks, brains, and plenty of soul. Designed by Story Bicycles, the e-bikes have a beautiful silhouette and practical features that include a powerful 350W motor and a hidden 36v battery as well as 6 levels of pedal assist and an LCD screen. A USB charger allows the user to charge a phone or tablet as they ride to work. The bike’s battery also charges completely in three hours, just in time for the ride back home.
The aluminum frame offers the perfect blend of stability, stiffness, and rust-resistance. The genuine leather grips and the saddle with rivets give the design an artisanal accent, complementing the modern and minimal aesthetic at the same time. Other notable features include the Shimano groupset, hydraulic brakes, and Torque Sensing Crankset. The bikes have an impressive 20mph top speed and a range of 45 miles. And we left the best part for last. For every purchase, Story Bicycles donates a Buffalo bike to someone in Africa, South America, or Southeast Asia, in a genuine one-for-one donation program created in partnership with World Bicycle Relief. Changing the world one bike at a time.
Launched on Kickstarter, the bikes are currently available at a 50% price reduction compared to the future retail price. Backers can choose between road bikes and step-through bikes; both come in single speed versions, with the former also available as a 9 speed and the latter as a 7 speed bike. All of them come with free shipping in contiguous USA, with international shipping also available. Photographs© Elliott Howell and Story Bicycles.
