Danish brand and B Corp company TAKT is a leader in sustainable furniture, making beautiful products that give a nod to Scandinavian design and craft traditions while focusing on minimizing their impact on the planet. The company takes a multi-layered approach to eco-friendly, circular furniture production. It uses only sustainable materials and responsible manufacturing processes; publishes climate footprint reports for every piece of furniture it makes; sells directly to customers to eliminate costs and waste; and offers spare parts for easy repairs that extend the life of TAKT furniture for generations.

Partnering with London-based studio Industrial Facility, TAKT has launched the Bow Chair, a design that embodies all of these facets of sustainable design while exploring the potential of oak plywood. The collaboration came naturally, as the Danish brand and the design studio share similar design principles.

“Industrial Facility has embodied our philosophy of Perpetual Sustainable Design in an elegant and seamless product that does not shout about its ecological values. Bow Chair calmly presents itself as an incredibly beautiful and comfortable armchair that just happens to be entirely repairable,” says Henrik Taudorf Lorensen, founder and CEO of TAKT.

Sam Hecht, co-founder of Industrial Facility, agrees: “we believe Bow Chair epitomizes TAKT’s philosophy — it’s simple to assemble, economical to produce, and cleverly combines industrial and craft expertise to minimize waste.”

Designed by Sam Hecht and Kim Colin, the Bow Chair has an ingenious build that references the way tailors cut patterns from fabric. Made of a single piece of molded oak plywood, the backrest curves to also form the armrests, offering the perfect blend of style and comfort. A simple A-frame wood dowel structure provides support to the backrest and allows it to move subtly. The extra-wide seat boasts a waterfall edge that enhances comfort further.

Similarly to other TAKT furniture, the Bow Chair is crafted with sustainability and longevity in mind. The oak is FSC-certified and the finishes come with a EU Ecolabel certification. Available in Natural or Black-stained oak, the chair also comes in upholstered versions: with fully traceable leather from SPOOR or a wool textile from Kvadrat. The chair’s components allow for easy repairs when needed, with TAKT offering replacement parts. Additionally, the chair comes disassembled to minimize packaging and its carbon footprint. TAKT will launch the Bow Chair on June 12 at the Formation Gallery in Copenhagen during 3daysofdesign. Photography by Sam Hecht.
