Focused on well-being and sustainability, this new digital currency is generated through cycling.

Based in Italy but already present in 31 countries, Imatra is a new app that lets you earn digital currency while riding your bicycle. The innovative Imatra coin aims to offer something different to crypto, focusing on establishing a thriving community centered around cycling. Created with sustainability in mind, the system encourages users to cycle more to improve their health and also earn currency in the process. So how does Imatra work? After installing the app on their phone, users simply have to login and launch the app before their ride to register their activity. The app takes into account not only the length of the ride but also the terrain to convert the cycled distance into the human-generated digital currency. For 25 standard kilometers, for example, the app gives the user 1 Imatra coin, which currently has a value between €0.5 and €4.00.

Users can then use the coins to purchase a range of high-end cycling items and exclusive gear on the company’s website. Partnering with some of the world’s best-known brands, Imatra offers a selection of products from companies like Shimano, Brooks, Oakley, Crank Brothers, and many more. The products range from bikes and bike parts to cycling shoes, helmets, and clothing. You can purchase items entirely or partly with Imatra Coin or in euros. Soon, Imatra aims to bring coin exchange capabilities to the community. Available now, Imatra is free for both iOS and Android. Apart from generating Imatra coin, the app also records the users’ journeys ad CO2 savings achieved through their cycling. Photography © Imatra.
