House 1 by Dot Partners

House 1 is a renovation of a street-side residence into a spacious and calming space through a smart use of materiality as a transformative characteristic. Located in Quesa, Spain, the original building required restorative work, during which architecture firm Dot Partners incorporated textural quality to define the rooms – while reducing the number of physical division – and to add a sense of depth in the open spaces. A wall of rough stone adds a rustic quality to the interior space, and the logs of wood stacked under the kitchen counters contribute color and warmth to the minimalistic kitchen. Though the house boasts white interiors and a white mortar façade, the boarded floors and simple wood furnishings welcome a touch of the natural without creating visual and physical clutter.
