A building from 1908 transformed into a stylish boutique hotel.
Located in the Central Eastside neighborhood in Portland, Palisociety’s Hotel Grand Stark welcomes guests in a refined space that embodies the soul of the Pacific Northwest. The building dates back to 1908 and has housed another hotel in the past as well as a furniture workshop. Design studio North 45 Projects renovated and redesigned the building to create the new boutique hotel. The studio took inspiration not only from the area’s vibrant – and quirky – art and design scenes, but also from the DIY movement and from the concept of imperfect beauty. The reception area captures Portland’s spirit with an art gallery-like space filled with artworks and decorative pieces created by local artists, designers, and artisans.
The hotel has 57 bespoke rooms designed to offer an elegant and comfortable home away from home. Regardless of size, the rooms feature a wide range of high-end furniture, accessories, and amenities. Apart from Italian linens, each room has bespoke furniture, a work desk, SMEG mini-refrigerator, Nespresso coffee machine, and free Wi-Fi. All bathrooms have a walk-in rain shower as well as Diptyque bath amenities. The décor is stylish and eclectic, with wooden floors, plush armchairs, and a green hues. Guests can also visit the Grand Stark Deli and Bar Chamberlain which celebrate deli culture and the classic cocktail bar. Finally, the hotel is also pet-friendly and offers pet amenities. While visiting the city, guests can also explore the neighborhood and its many coffee shops, restaurants, bars, galleries, and markets. Photographs© Palisociety.
