A tranquil and gorgeous seaside town in South West France, Cap Ferret features sandy dunes and stunning views as well as pine, yucca, and strawberry trees. Aka “the perfect holiday location” for a private retreat. Designed by Atelier du Pont, this contemporary holiday cabin makes the most of the natural landscape. The structure minimizes its impact on the land and on the existing vegetation; the studio aimed to preserve as many trees as possible while also designing the house in harmony with the topography and the surroundings. Taking inspiration from classic mountain cabins, the house features multiple openings that enhance the interior’s relationship with nature, as well as mostly wooden cladding to blend the structure in the nearby pine grove.
The house consists of three separate volumes connected by terraces. As a result, the living spaces provide privacy even when all the members of the large family come together to enjoy a break from city life. The cabin boasts triangular openings that provide a counterpoint to the interior spiral staircase and diagonal lines which frame the views. Outside, the pool area has a wooden deck as well as a sandy beach section, both serenaded by the rustling of the surrounding trees and vegetation. Photographs© Philippe Garcia and Takuji Shimmura.
