A series of alabaster and porcelain lamps that explores the emotional connection between the sense of touch and handmade objects.
Barcelona-based industrial designer Joshua Linacisoro aims to preserve traditional crafts in his work, bringing the ethos and techniques of handcrafting to modern manufacturing methods. He also frequently collaborates with local artisans and other designers to create tactile objects made of natural materials. For the Harria da Argia series, the designer partnered with Barbany Artesans, a family-owned company that has been working with stone since 1884. Made for the Il·lacions Design Gallery in Barcelona, Spain, the Harria da Argia lamps celebrate tradition, contemporary design, and the craftsmanship of handmade objects.
The collection draws inspiration from Basque rural sports, with the designer’s visual research leading to the creation of four distinct lamps. Exploring the tactile experience of interacting with handmade objects, the lamps are made from alabaster and porcelain. Beautifully designed with rounded shapes and polished to perfection, the lamps house the light inside their cylindrical bodies, resulting in a warm, soft glow.
Ultimately, the Harria da Argia lights are not merely sculptural lamps, but embody the designer’s vision of creating an emotional connection between people and handcrafted items. The textures of alabaster and porcelain evoke the feeling of human skin, emphasizing the idea of slowing down, moving away from digital distractions, and embracing the warmth of meaningful interactions. The Harria da Argia collection is on view by appointment only at Il·lacions Design Gallery. Photography© Manel Cano Merino.
