Modern homes are often designed with flexible living in mind, whether it’s an apartment with moving partitions that divide/unite spaces, a modular sofa system, or a piece of furniture that doubles as a work desk and dining table. With Gridlock, Stockholm-based furniture company Massproductions aims to bring that same level of flexibility and function to shelving. This wall-mounted shelving system took a lot of time to design and perfect, as it needed to allow for customization and for new, not-yet-introduced modular elements. Made of solid wood, Gridlock has only a few screws that keep the frame in place. The minimalist shelving system features a simple frame and shelves that lock into place to create a grid pattern.
“It looks simple, but it took a few years to complete. Ensuring that all connections and details work, finding the right type of production, approving that the system can be easily assembled by customers and also accommodate features that will be added in the future,” says Chris Martin, Massproductions co-founder and designer-in-chief.
Made from FSC-certified ash wood, the shelving system comes in three versions: Natural, White, and Black-Stained Ash. Additionally, the shelves come in two depths. The brand has launched an online configuration tool that allows users to customize their shelving unit according to their needs and available wall space. Plus, the company has added a desk component to the Gridlock series. This element enables the creation of a compact and versatile workspace at home. Apart from this desk unit, the brand will add other modular elements in the future.
