Grid Sofa by Kim HyunJoo

View all 6 Photos

Button-tufted leather couches have been around for centuries; though the modern era is not entirely indisposed to the classic and aged look, a fresh idea with a dash of humor is always appreciated. South Korean designer Kim HyunJoo offers a fun alternative: the Grid Sofa. The sofa is covered in an azure fabric and a lemon-yellow grid piping that marks the sofa’s orthogonal form, transforming the furniture piece into a large cousin of a Tetris gamepiece. The feet of the sofa follow the same spirited philosophy, and comprise a few scattered blocks on which the sofa is carefully balanced. Underneath the light-hearted exterior of the sofa is a sturdy wooden frame, making the sofa a quality piece of work with a unique flair and sass. Also available are the companion Grid Stools, which share the same whimsicality and bright pop of color.
