A minimalist table and wall light inspired by the simplicity and clarity of a store sign.
Antwerp-based furniture and product designer Amber Dewaele uses an artistic approach in her work, creating functional objects that cast ordinary concepts in a new light while inspiring a sense of wonder. For the unconventional Flat Light, the designer took inspiration from a mundane urban element: the store sign. Minimalist and elegant, this lighting design references the clarity and simplicity of public signage, bringing a touch of contemporary flair into living spaces.
The Flat Light combines stainless steel and acrylic in a slender, rectangular form with a slim base that ensures perfect stability. Around the edges, the light shines softly, illuminating spaces with a subtle glow. Thanks to its compact shape and flat body, the lamp fits into narrow spaces with ease, whether on a small desk, a windowsill, or a nightstand. Additionally, the design is flexible, allowing users to transform the table lamp into a wall-mounted light.
Made from stainless steel, the Flat Light comes in either brushed or polished finishes. While the former boasts a fine texture and a semi-matte surface, the latter acts as a mirror, reflecting the surroundings perfectly. Amber Dewaele introduced the light at the first edition of Curated, a Belgian collectible design exhibition held at Mix Brussels in October 2024. Curated by Lionel Jadot, the inaugural three-day event featured work from 44 talented designers, artists and architects. The Flat Light is now available to purchase from the designer’s website, with prices available upon request. Photography© Eline Willaert.
