A creatively designed space defined by playful geometric patterns, reflections, and splashes of color.
Porto-based architecture practice Fala Atelier always designs spaces with a distinct style that melds playful details with touches of bold color and dynamic geometries. The firm’s Fireworks in White project follows the same recipe. Located in Porto, Portugal, the building is sandwiched between a house with a white brick facade and a store with a green exterior. Fala Atelier used elements from both of these buildings to create a vibrant facade that features a combination of white and green colors, diamond patterns, and geometric shapes, including on the front door.
On the ground floor, a window of frosted glass blocks provides privacy from the street while filtering and softening the light. Painted white, the walls and ceiling brighten the interior. The marble floor and the wavy ceiling frame three fluid walls that divide the space without altering the feeling of openness. Curtains allow the clients to separate areas as needed. Strategically placed mirrors make the interior seem more spacious while subtly referencing missing windows. Dynamic geometries create an artistic composition, enhanced further by the use of green and blue colors.
Fala Atelier also maximized the available space with compact furniture. A table that doubles as a desk features small stools which the residents can easily store away from sight when needed. One wall features a bookcase with integrated storage areas. A triangular opening connects the kitchen and lounge area while providing support to a circular table. Imaginative and one of a kind, the Fireworks in White project showcases the studio’s skillful use of geometry, color and complementing materials to bring any space to life. Photographs © Willem Pab.
