Berlin artist duo Various & Gould have taken their love of screen-printing to new heights with “Facetime,” a colorful mural that spans a 350 square meter façade on the border of Mitte and Kreuzberg. Their first attempt at a wall painting, the project from their 2015 series under the same name; a collection of collaged facial features, the unorthodox “portraits” are intended to question commonly perceived symbols of gender and beauty. Although each character is “fictional and [bears] no name,” they “appear more realistic and authentic than many of the glossy beauty faces represented in the daily news.” This large-scale, colorful expression poses a positive challenge to conventional media representations of the human form. Various & Gould have released a screen-print edition based on their mural, available exclusively at Urbanshit Gallery. See the mural for yourself in the video above shot by drone.
