Every vintage car restoration project is extraordinary. But when the vehicle in question is the personal car of a music legend, the result is truly special. Discovered by a journalist, Elvis Presley’s BMW 507 Roadster has been beautifully restored by BMW Classic.
The two-year project was documented by the team, to allow automotive enthusiasts to get a glimpse at every step of the restoration process. The engine had been replaced with a Chevrolet one by a previous owner, so an original 3.2l V8 engine was located and restored for this 507 Roadster, with a similar process repeated for the missing ZF 4S 17 transmission and back axle. Inside the cabin, black and white tones recreate the original interior which includes a velour carpet, leather upholstery, and a Becker Mexico radio. When it came to the final step, an important decision had to be made. Originally white, the roadster had been painted bright red by Presley. The current owner eventually chose the original feather white paint, to recreate the car Elvis had fallen in love with at first sight. Using painting techniques typical of the era, the team added the perfect finishing touch to the car and brought a piece of history back to life.
